M&G is hiring: Multimedia journalist

This is a full-time position, based at the M&G Media offices in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The position is available immediately. Prospective candidates must have a tertiary degree in journalism and at least two years’ experience in the industry. The candidate should have strong news instincts, video and photo skills, a better-than-average grasp of the English language, and should be dynamic, confident and reliable. A driver’s license is a must. Will report to: multimedia editor.

PURPOSE
Produce original multimedia content for the Mail & Guardian

KEY OUTPUTS
Create original, newsworthy and compelling multimedia content
Must be able to follow a brief, shoot and edit independently as well as work as part of a team
Conceptualise original content ideas and apply these
Work with a CMS to upload multimedia
Assist the multimedia editor with tasks such as archiving, etc   

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Post-matric qualification in journalism & multimedia/ video, or a related discipline Experience in shooting and editing video is essential
Experience in audio work and photography is preferable
A journalism degree/ diploma is preferable; must have a strong editorial sense, able to research stories, conduct interviews and produce stories in their entirety
Knowledge of the online editorial industry and environment
Understanding of how multimedia and multi-platform news media works
An excellent grasp of the English language
A portfolio of published work
A valid driver’s license
