In overruling last year’s Supreme Court of Appeal decision to evict more than 400 residents from Johannesburg’s inner city, Constitutional Court Judge Zak Yacoob highlighted the applicants’ ”right to life and human dignity” as a pivotal factor. The judgement in the case throws a spanner in the works of the city’s hopes of becoming world class by 2030.
