AG: IsraeI can’t cut power to Gaza

Israel’s attorney general (AG) told the government on Monday it could not cut electrical power to the Gaza Strip as part of its sanctions against the Hamas controlled territory, although he did approve other measures. Israel began implementing economic sanctions on Sunday in what it said was a response to Palestinian rocket fire on Israeli towns.

Smith: Pakistan win a huge step forward

Skipper Graeme Smith said his team’s Test and one-day series wins in Pakistan could mark a huge step forward for South African cricket. The Proteas clinched a double after a 14-run win in the fifth one-dayer in Lahore on Monday helped them wrap up the series 3-2 after winning the preceding two-Test series 1-0.

Santam stands by Citi Golf drivers

Santam, the country’s largest short-term insurer, says it will continue to insure Citi Golf vehicles and related models, despite the fact that these vehicles are considered high risk in terms of hijacking and theft. Some insurance companies have announced they will no longer insure certain models of Citi Golfs.

African nations urged to harmonise telecoms laws

African countries working jointly to construct an undersea telecoms cable should harmonise laws governing the sector if they are to land the much-awaited communications link, a senior United Nations official said on Monday. About 23 nations have long harboured a much-delayed plan to build the submarine cable to slash internet and calling costs.
