David Hanson has two little Zenos to care for these days. There’s his 18-month-old son Zeno, who prattles and smiles as he bounds through his father’s cramped office. Then there is the robotic Zeno. It cannot speak or walk yet, but has blinking eyes that can track people and a face that captivates with a range of expressions.

Formula One returns to the Spa Francorchamps circuit on Sunday for the Belgian Grand Prix, with McLaren looking to emulate the 1-2 victory in Monza last weekend.
After a year’s absence due to construction and improvement works, the longest track of the season returns for the last grand prix in Europe.

Illegal evictions and rights violations continue to happen in the farming sector, Agriculture and Land Affairs Minister Lulu Xingwana said on Thursday. She said of the eight million people evicted between 1985 and 2005, 1% of the evictions was legal.

Russia’s military on Wednesday announced that it had successfully tested a lethal new air-delivered bomb, which it described as the world’s most powerful non-nuclear weapon. Officials said Moscow had developed the new thermobaric bomb to add to its already potent nuclear arsenal.

At least 440 sites are still heavily infested by landmines near residential districts in three Mozambican provinces, a non-governmental organisation working with the disabled said on Thursday. Demining agency Handicap International said the sites were in Inhambane and central provinces of Manica and Sofala.

The Wallabies are shocked by what they see as an over-the-top crackdown on foul play at the Rugby World Cup and are on notice to keep it clean during the rest of the tournament. The International Rugby Board (IRB) has sent out a firm message to the teams that foul play will not be tolerated with four citings and suspensions from the opening matches.

Major clashes between Taliban and security forces in Afghanistan left 56 rebels dead while an Afghan soldier and a Bangladeshi aid worker were also reported killed, officials said on Thursday. The deadliest of the incidents kicked off with an ambush on Afghan and coalition troops who called in air support.

The European Union (EU) executive plans to encourage legal migration into Europe to plug labour shortages caused by a declining, ageing population, EU officials said on Thursday. Prime Minister José Sócrates of Portugal, urged support for the proposal, saying it was crucial to meet labour shortages and curb illegal immigration and people trafficking.
