United States air strikes killed at least 13 people and wounded 52 early on Sunday in the north-eastern Baghdad district of Sadr city, a stronghold for Shi’ite militants, police sources said. The US military said it was ”targeting criminals believed to be responsible for the kidnapping of coalition soldiers in November 2006 and May 2007”.

Canadian investigators said on Saturday they do not know the motive for the killing of six men whose bodies were found in a Vancouver-area apartment building or the victims’ identities. The bodies were discovered on Friday in Surrey after emergency personnel were called to the scene for a reported gas leak.

A Kagiso man died when he was attacked by a rhinoceros at a Krugersdorp game reserve at 3pm on Saturday afternoon. ”I heard a man cry on the side where rhinos were. When I went to look, I just saw it throwing him in the air and mauling him,” said eyewitness Teboho Phalafala.
