We have thought about taking a lump sum and putting it into our bond, but don’t know if that would be the right option. Would it be better to transfer it into another pension fund, asks Candice Mitchell.

Is your last will your last wish?

A will cannot reflect your last wishes if it was drawn up 40 years ago. It might be your last will, but it is not your last wish. Since a will is the one document that affects all the assets you have accumulated over the years, it can have far-reaching consequences for your loved ones when you die.

Healthy cover for sick days

Younger people will face the biggest financial losses if they do not have enough insurance to replace their income should they become disabled or ill — simply because they have a longer life span during which they need to draw an income. When we are in the prime of our youth we might feel invincible, but the reality is that 20% of disability claims are a result of car accidents, which tend to affect younger people.
