Durban policeman arrested for rape

A policeman has been arrested for allegedly raping a sex worker, Durban police said on Monday.

”The police officer was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly raped a prostitute,” Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said.

The man together with a colleague picked up the woman in a police vehicle, Mdunge said.

”The officer then dropped off his colleague and drove to a secluded spot in the Brighton Beach area where he raped her.”

The officer left the woman in the same area and drove off.

The woman then reported the rape to the police.

”She identified the police officer who was then taken to the district surgeon for tests. The woman was also taken for tests.”

The officer was then immediately arrested and charged with rape, said Mdunge.

The officer would appear in court soon. – Sapa
