Mswati marries wife number 13

Africa’s last absolute monarch, Swaziland’s King Mswati III, has secretly married his 13th wife, whom he chose in 2005 amid outrage over her age, a newspaper reported on Sunday. Phindile Nkambule, now 19-years-old, was attending high school in the capital Mbabane before she dropped out in 2005 to assume royal duties.

Cosatu scorns Sunday Times’s Zuma report

There is no truth in media reports that Cosatu leaders have ”dropped” their support for Jacob Zuma as a candidate for the African National Congress (ANC) presidency, the union federation said on Sunday. According to the Sunday TImes, Cosatu leaders had expressed reservations with regards to Zuma becoming ANC president.

Protests after flawed Nigeria poll

Opposition supporters burned buildings, blocked roads and barricaded election offices in Nigeria on Sunday as partial results from flawed state elections showed a big victory for the ruling party. Local newspapers estimated about 50 people were killed in fighting linked to rigging in Saturday’s elections for 36 state governors/

Kelly swipes PGA lead from Els

Jerry Kelly aced the par-three fourth hole on his way to a four-under par 67 on Saturday to grab the lead at the United States PGA Verizon Heritage after a tough day for Ernie Els. Kelly, who trailed leader Els by three strokes when the day began, stood on 13-under par 200 after 54 holes.

Massa wins Bahrain Grand Prix

Brazil’s Felipe Massa driving a Ferrari won the Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday to record his third career victory. Englishman Lewis Hamilton was second in a McClaren — becoming the first driver to finish on the podium in his first three Grand Prix — and Kimi Raikkonen of Finland in another Ferrari was third.

DA threatens to take Balfour to court

The Democratic Alliance on Sunday threatened to take Correctional Services Minister Ngconde Balfour to court to force him to release the parole conditions of former African National Congress chief whip Tony Yengeni. ”I will not address myself to one offender when I have so many offenders in the country,” Balfour apparently told the DA.
