Beyond belief

The Catholic mystic Catherine of Siena claimed that, in a vision, she received the Holy Prepuce or foreskin as a wedding ring symbolising her marriage to Christ. Rubbed the wrong way

A hand bobbing up and down on an erection is one of the funniest things in the world — at least when said penis is being woggled on a leafy Johannesburg street at noon on Valentine’s Day. Veteran Zim politician expelled from party

The ruling party in Zimbabwe expelled one of its co-founders, veteran politician Edgar Tekere, for insulting President Robert Mugabe in a recently published autobiography. A meeting of party leaders in Tekere’s home district of Manicaland, eastern Zimbabwe, ”unreservedly condemned” Tekere’s book, A Lifetime of Struggle.

Dutch naturists enjoy ‘naked Sunday’ at gym

The first clothing-free workout session at a Dutch gym went ahead as planned on Sunday — and participants and observers said it met expectations. Around a dozen middle-aged and elderly men braved the glare of nearly twice that number of journalists at Fitworld gym in the town of Heteren, including reporters, photographers and at least five television crews.

Haig wins playoff in Thailand

South African Anton Haig kept his cool in scorching heat to win the Johnnie Walker Classic after a three-way play-off on Sunday. The 20-year-old Haig, who birdied the 72nd hole to join the leaders on 13-under-par 275, sank a 10-foot birdie putt at the first extra hole to beat compatriot Richard Sterne and Briton Oliver Wilson

Hummel scores Birds’ winner

The bad news is that Moroka Swallows’ Namibian international defender George Hummel is recovering from surgery incurred on a fractured tibia in December and will be out of soccer until mid-April. Hummel, making an unexpected appearance in the game against Golden Arrows on Saturday afternoon, scored the solitary goal of the match.

Chiefs lose to another coastal team

Amazulu’s Lucky Mzizi — a former Kaizer Chiefs player — scored a brace to help his team beat the Amakhosi 2-1 in a fast-flowing Castle Premiership game played at Olympia Park on Saturday evening. Amazulu led 1-0 at the break. It was sweet revenge for Amazulu, after Chiefs beat them 2-0 at home in the first round.
