The ruling African National Congress has condemned the ”irresponsible and bizarre behaviour” of Democratic Alliance officials who carried out an on-site inspection of President Thabo Mbeki’s retirement home on Friday. A new, deadly strain of tuberculosis (TB) has killed 52 of 53 people infected in the last year in South Africa, the World Health Organisation said on Friday, calling for improved measures to treat and diagnose the bacteria. The strain was discovered in KwaZulu-Natal, and is classified as extremely drug-resistant.

Alleged child molester Cezanne Visser was referred for a month’s mental observation at a state psychiatric hospital by the Pretoria High Court on Friday. Judge Essop Patel said he hoped the hospital visit would be beneficial to Visser who stands accused of numerous sex crimes with her former lover Dirk Prinsloo.
