A message to Kebble’s killers

Slain mining magnate Brett Kebble’s brother, Guy, has called on his killers to ”stand up and be counted” and not act cowardly following the Tuesday-night killing of his brother, whom he described as ”a brilliant man”. Asked about the motive, former judge Willem Heath — who is a friend of the Kebbles — said the killing points to a hijacking at this stage.

Al-Qaeda group claims Iraq suicide bombing

A woman suicide bomber blew herself up at an Iraqi police recruitment centre on Wednesday, killing five people in an attack claimed by al-Qaeda’s Iraq frontman, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. United States President George Bush warned again of an upsurge in violence ahead of next month’s vote on the draft Iraqi Constitution.

‘Great concern’ over school feeding cut

Schoolchildren in the Eastern Cape should not have to bear the brunt of the province’s poor budget planning, the Democratic Alliance said on Wednesday. The DA’s Helen Zille appealed to the minister of education to intervene to stop the province from implementing proposed severe budget cuts to the school feeding scheme.

Weakened Province to hunt Sharks

Western Province have made four changes — three enforced through injury — to their starting line-up for Saturday’s Currie Cup match against the Sharks in Durban. Egon Seconds and Gus Theron will be on the wings as Zhahier Ryland and Tonderai Chavhanga have been forced on to the sidelines with injuries.
