No progress in hunt for Kebble’s killer

There is still no progress in the hunt for the killer or killers of mining magnate Brett Kebble, police said on Wednesday.

”There is no progress,” the task team chief, Director Charles Johnson, said.

Kebble (41) was shot dead in Johannesburg on Tuesday last week on his way to a dinner engagement.

Police have not been able to say whether the killing of the controversial businessman was an assassination or a botched hijacking.

Meanwhile, police returned to the crime scene on Wednesday.

According to 702 Talk Radio, the team included a member of the police’s explosives unit.

Johnson had previously said his team would return to the scene as often as was required to crack the case.

Detectives say some aspects of a crime scene can only be visualised by being there.

Politicians, business associates, family members and friends crowded into the St George’s cathedral in Cape Town on Tuesday afternoon to pay their last respects at Kebble’s funeral.

Speaking at the funeral, Kebble’s grieving father, Roger, vowed he would do everything in his power to get to the bottom of his son’s murder.

”Of one thing I am sure, I will do all within my power to get to the bottom of Brett’s death,” he promised.

The body was cremated afterwards.

The family has tasked a team of investigators to probe Kebble’s death in parallel and in cooperation with police. — Sapa
