‘Lomu can get back to the top level’

Former All Blacks coach John Hart said on Tuesday he has no doubt that giant former All Blacks wing Jonah Lomu can return from a kidney transplant to play at the highest level again. Lomu said on Monday in London he will return to 15-a-side rugby for the first time in three years at Twickenham on June 4.

M&F shares jump as trading update surprises

The share price of Mutual & Federal, South Africa’s second-biggest short-term insurer, has climbed 10,4% or R2,35 in the first hour of trading on Tuesday after the company indicated late on Monday that its earnings for the six months ended December are likely to be much higher than those forecast in its last trading update in November.

Icy endurance test kills suitor

A love triangle in eastern China ended in tragedy when two young men waded into a freezing river to decide who would win the right to court a young woman, a news report said on Tuesday. As the young women could not decide between her two suitors, they staged a test to see who would be able to endure the icy waters of the Oujiang River in Zhejiang province.

Man hid in church roof for seven years

Parishioners at St Annes Catholic Church in tiny Harihari, in New Zealand’s South Island, have been told their confessions remain secret despite the fact that a squatter has been living in the roof for years, it was reported on Tuesday. Police were trying to remove the man who was refusing to come down from his hiding place.

SA face uphill battle

South Africa have an uphill battle if they are to save the fifth Castle Lager/MTN cricket Test against England at Supersport Park, despite a career best six wickets for 81 runs by Andre Nel. At close of play on the fourth day, South Africa had 59 for two in their second innings, and still trailed England by 53 runs.
