A police raid on a suspected child-sex operation in Benoni found a three-year-old boy being held hostage, and an under-age girl being pimped out for sex, police said on Friday. Four more men were arrested, one of whom was caught in the act of having sex with the 15-year-old girl, said a member of the Gauteng child protection unit.

Roland Schoeman, who spearheaded the relay team to a world-record gold at the Athens Olympics, was in super mode with a South African short-course record of 47,12 seconds in the 100m freestyle at the Fina World Cup in Durban on Friday night. ”Swimming’s got to be better than rugby and cricket for South Africans right now,” grinned Schoeman.

Anil Kumble grabbed two wickets as South Africa struggled after a steady start in the first Test against India at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Saturday. Major Japanese automaker Honda Motor is to acquire a 45% stake in the BAR formula-one motor-sport team, the company said. British American Tobacco will hold the remaining 55% stake in the team, which will continue to conduct operations from its British base in Brackley, Northamptonshire.

The Highveld Lions scored more runs then the Dolphins in their Standard Bank Cup cricket match in Durban on Friday night, but by virtue of the Duckworth-Lewis system, ended up losing by 20 runs to their KwaZulu-Natal opponents. The Dolphins won the toss and elected to bat, but with the score on 100 for two wickets, rain came down.

There was high drama at Goodyear Park on Friday night, as the Eagles snatched victory over the Warriors in their Standard Bank Cup match. Needing six from six off the last over, with one wicket in hand, all seemed lost for the home side when the first ball, bowled by Lyle Meyer, brushed Deon Kruis’s off-stump.
