Recipes for kangaroo testicles won’t be knocked until they’re tried next year at the World Testicle Cooking Championships in Serbia, news reports said on Thursday. The annual event is organised by the Serbian Tourism Board, and an invitation has gone out to Australian chefs to come to Belgrade next year.

Giving a new meaning to the term grassroots music, Pioneer Corporation said on Thursday it has developed a next-generation disc made of corn to let the eco-conscious consumer dispose of data in the soil. The Japanese electronics maker said the Blu-Ray optical disc can be written once and stores 25 gigabytes of data.

TAC protesters march to Parliament

A crowd of Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) activists marched to Parliament on Thursday as part of a national demonstration calling for the government to pay the TAC’s costs in recent litigation. The spirited protesters toyi-toyied and chanted their way down several blocks in the city centre, bringing traffic to a standstill.

Dalai Lama: ‘I’m not seeking independence’

Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, told a news conference in Johannesburg on Thursday he is eager to go to China — where he last visited 50 years ago — and stressed that Beijing has failed to understand that he has dropped demands for independence. The leader sidestepped questions on the United States elections.

Arafat in intensive care

Yasser Arafat’s condition has suddenly worsened and he is in intensive care undergoing a new round of tests, Palestinian officials in France said on Thursday. Israeli media, citing Israeli intelligence officials, said the Palestinian leader had suffered organ failure and was going in and out of consciousness as his condition seriously deteriorated.
