Silver Stars were made to sweat before overcoming determined First Division Coastal Stream side Uthukela 2-1 after extra time in the last 32 stage of the Absa Cup in Polokwane on Sunday. Inexperience denied Uthukela a chance to beat Premier Soccer League team Stars.

The cricket world in South Africa woke to the news on Monday that ”larger-than-life” cricketer Lorrie Wilmot had died. Inspector Mali Govender, police spokesperson for the Grahamstown area in the Eastern Cape, said it appeared Wilmot had taken his own life on Sunday evening by shooting himself.
Songezo Nayo has been appointed as the new managing director of SA Rugby. Nayo’s appointment was confirmed by the board chairperson, Dr Theunie Lategan. ”Songezo’s intimate knowledge of the game, his capabilities and acceptance by all stakeholders were key determining factors in the appointment,” said Lategan.
