Human rights groups in Kenya have called on the government to set up an independent truth and reconciliation commission that will, among other things, try judges who were suspended last year on charges of corruption. At present, a special tribunal is dealing with these allegations. Certain activists have little faith in the body, however.

The inquest into the death of controversial cycling star Marco Pantani will begin in earnest on Monday as Italy come to terms with the loss of one of its fallen heroes. Pantani, the last cyclist to win the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia double in the same year, was found lifeless in a Rimini hotel room on Saturday evening.

Armed with a new set of irons and a remodelled swing, Warrick Druian dominated the final round of the Telkom PGA Championships on Sunday to capture the biggest title of his career. A late goal by captain Dingane Masanabo earned Silver Stars a deserved 2-2 draw against defending Castle Premiership champions Orlando Pirates in a league clash played at the Mmbatho stadium on Sunday. Pirates led 1-0 at halftime.
