Wits thump Hellenic

Hellenic’s relegation troubles continued when the bottom club in the PSL were hammered 3-0 by Wits University at the PAM Brink stadium on Sunday. Hellenic’s lack of fire power showed and against the Students they had no answer. Wits took the lead in the 16th minute when Gareth Devine netted from an Alois Bunjira cross.

SA loses underwater hockey star

South African underwater hockey has lost one of its most valued players in a drowning accident on Saturday. Morkel Swart (22) was a member of the team that will represent South Africa at the World Underwater Hockey Championships to be held in New Zealand in March and April 2004.

New Zealand plan to target Pollock

New Zealand’s batsmen are targeting South African bowler Shaun Pollock in Tuesday’s second one-day international staged on a pitch famous for producing run-feasts. Black Caps skipper Stephen Fleming says his side will mount a full-scale assault on the Proteas’ Pollock as the New Zealanders seek to level the six-match series.

Terry confident Chelsea will banish blues

England defender John Terry is confident Chelsea can bounce back from their FA Cup defeat to Arsenal and beat the Gunners in next weekend’s Premiership rematch. Arsenal’s 2-1 fifth-round win at Highbury ensured Chelsea have now been eliminated from the competition by the Gunners over four consecutive seasons.

Many die in fiery Uganda collision

A tanker truck carrying diesel fuel collided with a packed minibus and burst into flames on a Ugandan road, killing at least 32 people, police said on Sunday. The tanker was travelling toward Kampala when a car heading in the opposite direction tried to overtake slower-moving vehicles and slammed into the truck.

Powerful quake strikes Pakistan

Rescue and relief efforts were under way in remote areas of northern Pakistan on Sunday after a powerful earthquake killed at least 20 people and damaged hundreds of buildings. The quake, measuring 5,7 on the Richter scale, struck at 10.30am GMT on Saturday and was followed by an aftershock measuring 5,5.
