The now routine long lines of customers outside of banks have eased for the first time in two months after Zimbabwe’s central bank launched new temporary bank notes printed in full only on one side. The jobs of more than 1 500 mineworkers at Durban Roodepoort Deep (DRD) have been saved, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said on Tuesday. The agreement to retain the group came after 10 000 NUM members threatened to strike at DRD’s North West operations to protest against the retrenchments.
