Cambodian children still suffer sexual exploitation despite a recent government crackdown on foreign paedophiles, child-rights activists warned on Tuesday. Rodney Hatfield of the United Nations Children’s Fund Unicef said the commercial sexual exploitation of children remained a serious problem in the kingdom.

Budapest was calm on Tuesday after a day of anti-government protests in the capital in which about 130 people were injured when police used rubber bullets, teargas and water cannon to disperse demonstrators. Police arrested about 100 people from the crowds who set up barricades and attacked riot police late into the night.

The JSE recorded another record high on Tuesday, boosted by a weaker rand and firmer world markets overnight. However lower commodity prices and a soft production report from BHP Billiton pared the JSE’s gains. By 12.06pm, the all-share index was up 0,22% at 23Â 521,99 after touching a high of 23Â 538,17.

Thousands of extra video cameras are being installed on Beijing’s buses in an effort to improve public politeness ahead of the 2008 Olympics, state press said on Tuesday. The campaign is aimed at raising standards of courtesy in the capital, such as giving up bus seats to the elderly, children, pregnant women and the handicapped, Xinhua news agency said.

Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso has played down his chances of matching the achievements of the retired Michael Schumacher. The 25-year-old Spaniard reclaimed his crown at the Brazilian Grand Prix, and in so doing, ended Schumacher’s bid to add to his record of seven drivers’ championships.

The All Blacks will wear an embroidered poppy on a sleeve of their rugby jerseys when they play France next month to honour New Zealand soldiers who gave their lives in wars last century. The poppy is the symbol of remembrance for those killed in combat, particularly in the two world wars.

A plane from Angolan state airline TAAG made an emergency landing on Monday in Lisbon just 15 minutes after taking off from the Portuguese capital due to technical problems, officials said. The Boeing 747, which was bound for the Angolan capital Luanda, landed safely at Portela airport, Portugal’s busiest, just before 7am (6am GMT).

Humans are stripping nature at an unprecedented rate and will need two planets’ worth of natural resources every year by 2050 on current trends, the WWF conservation group said on Tuesday. It also said in a two-yearly report that populations of many species, from fish to mammals, had fallen by about a third from 1970 to 2003.
