No Indian tour for Gibbs, Boje

Batting supremo Herschelle Gibbs and fellow all-rounder Nicky Boje are out of South Africa’s tour to India, again over fears of arrest for match-fixing that have haunted them for the past five years. Indian police are probing Gibbs and Boje’s alleged involvement in a match-fixing scandal dating back to 2000.

Huge manhunt in Indian capital

Police on Monday stepped up what they called one of the biggest manhunts to date in the Indian capital, New Delhi, which was cloaked in tight security after a weekend attack claimed by Islamic militants. Another victim succumbed to his injuries from Saturday’s coordinated explosions, bringing the death toll to 62.

Tshwane council abandons ‘racist’ plans

The Tshwane metro council has abandoned plans to make the race of a tenderer count for half the points awarded in considering tenders for the sale of municipal properties, the Freedom Front Plus said on Monday. A policy document approved in June had recommended the adjustment of the system by which points are awarded.

Gbagbo carries on amid protests

Laurent Gbagbo began his sixth year as president of Côte d’Ivoire on Monday in the face of fierce objections from the country’s armed and unarmed opposition, who are demanding he stand down. ”I will never allow the decapitation of the state of Côte d’Ivoire,” Gbagbo told the nation in a televised address.
