ANC papers over cracks in alliance

The African National Congress (ANC) is ”more than capable” of speaking for itself on its state of organisation and other matters affecting it, party spokesperson Smuts Ngonyama said on Sunday. His remarks follow a call by the South African Communist Party for a ”major transformation and renewal” of the ANC.

PAC: ‘ANC is for cut-throat capitalism’

The Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) said on Saturday at the party’s 29th Robert Sobukwe Commemoration rally, at the Collie Koeberg Stadium in Graaff-Reinet, that the PAC will never join hands with the African National Congress (ANC), which it accuses of ”cut-throat capitalism” that only benefits its own party officials.

France’s Duval flies in A1 practice sessions

Team France’s Loic Duval set the fastest times in the first two practice sessions at the A1 Grand Prix in Durban as Team South Africa did battle with a drive shaft that broke on Friday. In scorching temperatures, Duval set a lap time of 1:19,36 at the morning practice session, and bettered that with a time of 1:18,62 in the afternoon session.

ANC slams personal attacks on Manto

The Cabinet on Thursday objected to ”highly personalised” comments in the media on Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang’s well-being. She is currently in a stable condition in Johannesburg Hospital. The African National Congress (ANC) parliamentary caucus also lambasted a Democratic Alliance MP for her ”insensitive” remarks about the minister.

Iran shrugs off sanctions threat

Iran will on Wednesday be declared in violation of a United Nations resolution calling for a halt to its enrichment of uranium. ”Anyone interested in irrational moves would definitely receive an appropriate response,” said Ari Larijani, Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator.
