Pretoria High Court Judge Nkola Motata was given another chance on Tuesday to try and block a lower court from hearing recordings of his alleged drunken diatribe after a car accident. This was after Nkola’s drunken-driving trial was postponed in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s court until July 2 2008.

“It is not enough for large legal firms to quote the number of black lawyers in their firm when vying for contracts,” says Mohamed Husain of Knowles Husain Lindsay, who has been intimately involved in the drafting of the Legal Services Charter. “Many lawyers of colour have been and are still being marginalised and kept from corporate and commercial legal work. This is one of the problems the charter seeks to rectify.”

Chad will investigate reports that at least 74 Chadian children were flown to France more than a month-and-a-half ago without their parents’ knowledge, a senior judicial official said on Thursday. The African National Congress (ANC) will not financially benefit from a business lounge set up on the sidelines of its national conference in Polokwane in December. ”We, as a private company will decide what we want to do with the money,” said Nic Wolpe, the project organiser for Network Lounge.
