The Government of Lesotho, with support of international partners, has embarked on an ambitious national programme for Integrated Catchment Management (ICM). The European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has commissioned the Deutsche Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to support the Government of Lesotho in the implementation of a technical cooperation project “Support to integrated catchment management in Lesotho”. The project aims to support implementation of ICM in line with climate change adaptation principles that will rehabilitate degraded watersheds across the country and to put in place prevention measures that will halt the further degradation of Lesotho’s catchment areas. Target areas of implementation include policy harmonization; institutional development; human capacity building and behaviour change communication; implementation of watershed rehabilitation measures; and support for data and monitoring.
The project anticipates the production of various publications and documents that will require translation from either Sesotho to English or English to Sesotho during the programme’s duration. Other key stakeholders include other private and commercial water users, local civil society and community-based organisations, government departments, institutions of learning, regional and international stakeholders such as ORASECOM and SADC, and potential international cooperating partners.
