Acsa launches crime-busting weekend

Fifteen people were arrested during a crime-fighting operation at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport on Friday, said the Airports Company South Africa (Acsa). ”Fifteen people have so far been arrested and 10 vehicles have been impounded,” said Acsa spokesperson Tasniem Patel.

Engen slows operations due to tank fire

South African oil refiner Engen has slowed operations at its 180 000 barrel-per-day plant in Durban after an oil tank caught fire, although the blaze did not damage the refining facilities. The fire, which continues to burn, started on Monday evening when a petrol tank containing about seven million litres of petrol exploded.

Nationwide Boeings grounded temporarily

Nationwide airline’s Boeing 737-200s were temporarily grounded on Saturday, pending engine inspections, said the Civil Aviation Authority. This action comes after a Nationwide Boeing 737 carrying 106 passengers had to make an emergency landing in Cape Town on Wednesday after an engine fell off during take-off.
