Three people were arrested for smuggling cocaine into Cape Town and OR Tambo international airports, the police reported on Tuesday. Captain Dennis Adriao said a 28-year-old man was arrested at OR Tambo airport on Saturday after 5,7kg of cocaine, worth about R5-million, was found in his possession.
Police have confirmed the arrests of three men suspected to be involved in at least 14 robberies linked to OR Tambo International Airport. Police spokesperson Dennis Adriao said on Tuesday that he could confirm the arrests but could not comment further because the matter was in court.
Opposition to a shipment of arms being offloaded in Durban and transported to Zimbabwe increased on Thursday when South Africa’s largest transport workers’ union announced that its members would not unload the ship. A government spokesperson said the country could not stop the shipment from getting to its destination.

Two South African men were arrested while trying to smuggle nearly R750-million worth of heroin into the country at the Beit Bridge border post from Zimbabwe, Limpopo police said on Tuesday. Police said the heroin was found in a secret compartment at the base of the truck.

The Tanzanian high commissioner to South Africa — who was beaten unconscious on Friday evening by robbers — is sedated and breathing with the help of a ventilator in Pretoria East Hospital’s intensive-care unit, doctors said. Dr Linda Ezekiel said Emmanuel Mwambulukutu was in a stable but critical condition.

Police seized cocaine valued at about R50-million at OR Tambo International Airport on Friday. Spokesperson Captain Dennis Adriao said the drugs had been found on a plane from Brazil. He said the bust brought the number of drug finds at the airport to four in the space of three weeks.

A 20-year-old man who allegedly offered matric exam papers to friends on Facebook was taken into police custody for questioning on Sunday, Primedia Broadcasting said. Captain Dennis Adriao said that police had received an anonymous SMS tip-off.
