Two South African men were arrested while trying to smuggle nearly R750-million worth of heroin into the country at the Beit Bridge border post from Zimbabwe, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.
”Police and customs officials stopped a truck yesterday [Monday], and trailer in a routine check and found them both empty. The narcotics dog unit that we have at the border post reacted positively and [we] found a hidden compartment in the base of the truck” said police spokesperson, Captain Dennis Adriao.
”The compartment was opened and [in it] was found 1 363kg of pure heroin with a total street value of R 749 650 000,” he said.
No court date has been set yet and investigations were continuing, he said.
Adriao said various government departments had worked closely together in the inspections and this had resulted in numerous successes. – Sapa
