Zim election battle turns to recount

Zimbabwean election officials are expected on Saturday to begin a partial recount of votes from the March 29 elections despite opposition protests and widespread fears the political stalemate could erupt in violence.The recount in 23 of 210 constituencies could overturn the results of the parliamentary election.

Tsvangirai works to avoid Zim ‘chaos’

Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai urged the leaders of Southern Africa on Wednesday to use their influence to help prevent his country from sliding into chaos following disputed elections. MDC lawyers, meanwhile, were trying to persuade the High Court to order the immediate release of the results of the March 29 presidential election.

Cops find porn photos at tycoon’s home

­Prosecutors on Tuesday implicated British tycoon Nicholas van Hoogstraaten on pornography charges involving scores of young Zimbabwean women and gave evidence of how he had been trapped in illegal black-market currency dealing. Van Hoogstraaten professes to be a friend of President Robert Mugabe, whom he describes as ”100% decent and incorruptible”.
