State survey said to be ‘unreliable’

Concerns have been raised about the reliability of an R600-million state-funded Statistics South Africa survey endorsed by President Thabo Mbeki. The Statistics Council of South Africa said irregularities in the survey made it questionable as to whether the survey could provide a ”scientific basis” for government policy.

Cosatu opposes electricity price hike

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) on Friday condemned the National Electricity Regulator for giving permission to Eskom to increase electricity prices by 14,2%. ”Poor households continue to face massive challenges in access to energy for basic household activities,” said spokesperson Patrick Craven.
