South Africa’s communications regulator said on Friday it would force cellphone companies to cut charges for handling calls from other providers.
Vodacom said on Tuesday it has lost about $79-million in the last three months due to a regulatory rate cut.
South Africa’s first interconnect rate cut in eight years has translated into a meager 2% cost decrease for the average business contract subscriber.
SA has done well to reduce the cost of communicating, and the next step should see curbs in the retail market, the communications minister says.
