The ”meddling hand” of Agriculture and Land Affairs Minister Lulu Xingwana is behind the sacking of Land Bank chairperson Themba Langa, the DA said.

Government ministers have changed their minds about referring the forensic report on the affairs of the Land Bank to the police. According to Cabinet spokesperson Themba Maseko, they did so after hearing that a number of board members and senior executives of the bank had challenged statements in the report.

The head of the Land Bank’s treasury, Makgale Gwangwa, has not been suspended from duty, the bank reiterated in a quarter-page advertisement on Monday. the Land Bank said it had become important to ”set the record straight” amid ongoing media speculation about the situation at the bank.

Government incompetence and not apartheid is to blame for the Land Bank’s woes, says the Freedom Front Plus (FF+). ”Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs Lulama Xingwana’s accusation that the current problems of the Land Bank are the direct result of apartheid is a lame excuse,” FF+ agriculture and land affairs spokesperson Pieter Groenewald said on Tuesday.
