Victorious Federer has Sampras in his sights

Roger Federer hoisted aloft the US Open trophy for a fourth straight year on Sunday after victory over Novak Djokovic before swiftly turning his gaze to Pete Sampras and the all-time record for grand slam titles. The victory was worth ,4-million to the Swiss world number one, but the only figure Federer really cared about was moving his grand slam titles haul to 12.

Henin beats Venus to reach US Open final

Venus Williams left the US Open the same way Serena Williams did, undone by all those big shots off the racket of little Justine Henin. Henin became only the second woman to beat both Williams sisters at the same Grand Slam tournament, reaching the final at Flushing Meadows with a 7-6 (2), 6-4 victory over Venus on Friday.

Steve Stricker ended a six-year victory drought on Sunday with birdies on the last three holes to give him a two-stroke win over KJ Choi of South Korea at the Barclays Classic. KJ Choi grabs halfway lead in US

KJ Choi, who is having a career year on the PGA Tour, fired a 66 to take a two-shot lead after the second round of the -million Barclays Classic tournament on Friday. The 37-year-old South Korean star shot 64 on Thursday and has now rolled in 12 birdies over the first two rounds to reach 12-under-par 130 at the Westchester Country Club course.

Injury-plagued Henman calls it a day

New York commuters beat a wary path to work on Thursday, the day after a freak storm plunged the city into chaos, felling trees, flooding roads and jamming the city’s vast underground train network. Streets were blocked by fallen trees, wrecked cars and rubble from damaged homes.
