The Airbus A380, the world’s biggest passenger plane, took off Tuesday from Singapore’s Changi Airport for its inaugural commercial flight to London, the jet’s first European destination. Flight SQ308, operated by A380 launch customer Singapore Airlines, departed Changi Airport’s new Terminal Three at 9.19am.
Beijing has opened a huge new ,6-billion airport terminal ahead of the expected influx of millions of visitors to this summer’s Olympics, part of a multibillion-dollar infrastructure boost for the capital. The impressive terminal’s nearly 3km-long concourse is divided into three sections and connected by a shuttle train.

Airbus named on Monday Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal as the first private buyer of an A380 superjumbo, the world’s largest passenger airliner. The prospective buyer’s identity had been kept secret for months but was unveiled to coincide with the Dubai air show.

The annual conference of the International Bar Association, the world’s biggest meeting of lawyers, was officially opened in Singapore recently by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. Yew, Singapore’s long-time ruler and a lawyer by training, was in no mind to soft-peddle his prescriptions for the island state’s success. ”If I had permitted freedom of expression,” he confidently announced, ”I would not be here tonight and neither would all of you.”

Passengers elated over their upcoming flight on the Airbus A380, the biggest commercial jet in the world, are taking notes on their preparations and planning celebrations even before take-off. The Singapore Airlines flight on October 25 bound for Sydney is set to carry 471 passengers who bid for seats in an online charity auction.

Airbus on Monday delivered the first of its A380s, the world’s biggest passenger jet, to Singapore Airlines, 18 months behind schedule but with both sides hailing the major advance in air travel. Boeing ran into turbulence on its highly touted 787 Dreamliner programme, announcing a six-month delay for the new jet seen as the future profit driver for the United States aviation giant. Boeing said the first deliveries will not come until December 2008.
