Stars beat Cosmos in Absa Cup

Silver Stars beat Jomo Cosmos 2 -0 in a heated Absa Cup game to qualify for the last 16 played at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday. Stars led 2-0 at halftime. Stars put their dismal Premier Soccer League form behind them and were in control of the game throughout.

Oosthuizen takes Telkom PGA honours

Louis Oosthuizen claimed his second victory in four tournaments when he won the Telkom PGA Championship at Country Club Johannesburg’s Woodmead Course on Sunday. Oosthuizen birdied the last for a 65 and a total of 22 under par, giving him a one-stroke victory in the final tournament of the Sunshine Tour’s 2006/07 season.

Nutrition guru denies link to Rath foundation

British nutrition guru Patrick Holford, currently touring South Africa, says he has no links to the Dr Rath Health Foundation and does not advise people to stop taking antiretrovirals (ARVs). He has also denied news reports that, he said, implied he had been saying vitamin C was more effective in treating Aids than the ARV AZT.

Tax man keeps an eye on Zuma

The South African Revenue Service has served African National Congress deputy president Jacob Zuma with a summons after he apparently failed to submit his tax return, the Sunday Independent reported. According to the Independent, Zuma’s attorney Michael Hulley collected the summons from the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

McLardy hangs on to Telkom PGA lead

Andrew McLardy gave everything, including his three iron, to the cause of leading the third round of the Telkom PGA Championship at Country Club Johannesburg on Saturday. The European Tour campaigner battled through a snapped club, a course-record 62 from Richard Sterne and a back nine of 29 from Marc Cayeux to retain his lead.

There may have been no sounding of the controversial Bok van Blerk song De la Rey, but Springbok and Bulls winger Bryan Habana was the one man who saved his team from the certain jaws of defeat. At the last moment, Habana salvaged the match by scoring in the left-hand corner to give the Bulls a 30-27 victory.

The Crusaders showed their class when they overcame a difficult week to defeat the high-riding Cheetahs 47-28 in a one-sided Super 14 match played in Bloemfontein on Saturday night. France’s Duval flies in A1 practice sessions

Team France’s Loic Duval set the fastest times in the first two practice sessions at the A1 Grand Prix in Durban as Team South Africa did battle with a drive shaft that broke on Friday. In scorching temperatures, Duval set a lap time of 1:19,36 at the morning practice session, and bettered that with a time of 1:18,62 in the afternoon session.
