Students to march at UJ on Friday

A march in protest against fee hikes and police shootings will take place at the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Kingsway Campus on Friday, students said. ”We are asking for a peaceful and disciplined march; we cannot allow the police to shoot us again,” a protesting student said on Thursday. The march will start at 9am.

Interdict curtails student protest at UJ

An interim court interdict granted to the University of Johannesburg curtailed a protest taking place across the university’s campuses on Monday. About 300 students protested at the university’s Bunting Road and Kingsway campuses. Later in the afternoon, they were joined by students from the Soweto and Doornfontein campuses at the gates to the Kingsway Campus.

SA wine pours into new market

A wine glass with an imprinted logo of the famous painted Soweto power station was handed to me at the door of the Standard Bank Soweto Wine Festival on the weekend. As I walked into the hall, I found that there were a lot of people like me, people who didn’t’ know much about wine and wanted to learn.

Soweto wine festival draws record crowd

A festival touting wines to Sowetans drew record numbers over the weekend, organisers said on Sunday. Participants tasted wines from more than 800 labels on display at the show at Soweto campus of the University of Johannesburg. ”I tasted wine for the first time at the show and I love the experience,” said a 20-year-old university undergraduate.
