Blackburn leave it late to clinch derby victory

Jason Roberts’s last-minute winner secured a 2-1 win for Blackburn Rovers away to local rivals Bolton Wanderers as they battled back from going a goal down in dramatic fashion on Sunday. The Lancashire derby appeared destined for a draw when the striker burst clear from the halfway line and left several defenders behind him at the Reebok Stadium.

New website aims to be home of Spanish

Cyberspace has welcomed a new, Wikipedia-style tool designed to help the world’s nearly 400-million Spanish-speakers consult on proper use of their language. The website, called Wikilengua was officially unveiled last Thursday at Casa de America, a cultural centre in Madrid that aims to symbolise and enhance Spain’s strong ties with Latin America.

Alpine resorts scramble to beat warmer winters

Army conscripts used to be a common sight in Andermatt, practising parallel turns or perfecting climbing techniques in case they were needed to defend Switzerland’s mountain heart. These days it is mainly local skiers schussing down the surrounding slopes and the town is better known for two things: the foil that covers a glacier to stop it melting in summer and a giant new luxury holiday resort.

Bush urges Arab allies to confront Iran

United States President George Bush on Sunday ratcheted up rhetoric over Iran, lambasting it as ”the world’s leading sponsor of state terror”, and urging America’s closest Arab allies to confront it ”before it is too late”. ”Iran’s actions threaten the security of nations everywhere,” he declared in Abu Dhabi.
