THE State’s case against former anti-apartheid cleric Allan Boesak, involving possession and use of a cellphone in prison may be in jeopardy after the gangster who allegedly gave him the phone was shot dead. Police believe the murder was gang-related. Donovan Isaacs was released on parole from Malmesbury prison in February. He was serving time for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Police say they are in possession of a statement that says Isaacs confessed to providing Boesak with the phone. When Boesak applied for early release, he said he had brought the phone into jail with him but had not used it. However, it was found to have been used during the time he was in prison.
