MPUMALANGA FARMER DIES IN AMBUSH

AN Mpumalanga farm manager died in hospital early Tuesday morning after he was shot in an ambush at his house on Monday. Manager of the Misty Hill tree plantation in Waterval Boven, Ronald Laaper, (41) was shot in the hip when he arrived home at about 5.30pm, said Highveld police representative Inspector Jacky Nkoana. He didn’t see who shot him and his attackers disappeared without stealing anything,” said Nkoana. Laaper managed to crawl to the telephone and called neighbouring farmers for help. Laaper was transferred to Witbank Hospital, where he died early Tuesday morning. Police have detained a man from a neighbouring farm for questioning. A total of 26 farm attacks have been reported to the media in the province since the start of the year. – African Eye News Service
