Drug Lords Plot To Kill Sexwale

Weekly Mail Reporters

THE PWV government yesterday disclosed sensational details of an alleged plot by drug lords to kill PWV premier Tokyo Sexwale.

PWV government spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa said he could “confirm the existence of a conspiracy to murder the premier” by a sinister group in the drug world.

The reason the group wanted Sexwale dead was because of the PWV government’s recent anti-crime blitz, which put the squeeze on drug merchants. “It is because of our commitment to create a crime-free PWV,” said Mamoepa.

He said a campaign was already under way to create a climate conducive to murder by discrediting Sexwale. The campaign would focus on the premier’s “character, name and reputation”. An example would be stories about his “expensive cars”.

Mamoepa said if the attempt on Sexwale’s life — apparently planned to take place “as soon as possible” — did not succeed, there was an alternative plan to kidnap Sexwale’s father, Frank.

He said the PWV government had been tipped off about the conspiracy by a member of a drug syndicate. Mamoepa said the information seemed reliable, as it was confirmed by a separate investigation by the PWV government’s safety and security committee.

He said three other plots against members of the PWV government had already been uncovered.

and that a spate of cars hijacked from members of the provincial government seemed to be related.

It is understood an element of the alleged campaign to discredit Sexwale was designed to implicate him as being involved in the drug trade himself. Sexwale is expected to go public on the alleged plot at a press conference on Monday.
