THE 1989 assassination of prominent Swapo member Anton Lubowski will return to court next month. Five former military and police officers have launched large defamation suits on allegations about the killing, principally against The Namibian newspaper. The case will be heard from February 8 to 19. The plaintiffs — retired Namibian Police Deputy Commissioner Flip Nel, former Namibian Police Warrant Officer Riaan White, Sergeant Danie Oberholzer and former South West African Police Sergeant Martin Bornman, as well as former Namibian Defence Force weapons expert Colonel Des Radmore — are each claiming N$245000. The claims are based on reports from the 1994 inquest hearing into Lubowski’s death at which witnesses’ allegations against them were rejected by presiding Judge Harold Levy.
