The Inkatha Freedom Party’s Durban district chairperson, James Maphalala, who was also an eThekwini municipal councillor, has died at his home in Lindelani, KwaZulu-Natal, after a long illness, the IFP said on Friday.
IFP deputy national chairperson Velaphi Ndlovu expressed condolences to Maphalala’s family, and said he will always be remembered.
He said Maphalala (57) was a stalwart of the party and his contributions to the growth of the IFP in eThekwini and to the development of informal settlements were invaluable.
Ndlovu announced two memorial services for Maphalala.
The first will be at 4pm on Tuesday at the Pholani Stadium, Lindelani, and the second at 3pm on Thursday at the eThekwini metropolitan council offices.
Ndlovu said Maphalala will be buried at his home in Bergville on Saturday February 25. — Sapa
