Sandy Lane to host 2006 golf World Cup

The Sandy Lane resort and golf course will host the World Cup of golf next December.

The event will feature the world’s top 18 golfers competing for a purse of $3,3-million, the organisers said on Friday.

Tiger Woods was married at the Sandy Lane resort last year.

”We chose Barbados because it is a great golfing destination and it has many of the attributes we are looking for,” said Jack Warfield, vice-president of the World Golf Championship.

Twenty-five teams, including the top three teams from each of the World Cup qualifying matches in Mexico and Asia, will compete in the tournament from December 4 to 10.

Last month, Stephen Dodd and Bradley Dredge of Wales won the World Cup, a stroke-play event that completes the World Golf Championships season. – Sapa-AP
