The KwaZulu-Natal education department on Thursday said a disciplinary hearing will be held at a Durban school over a case where a teacher was allegedly filmed kissing and fondling a matric pupil.
Department spokesperson Mbali Thusi said a complaint had been lodged with the department and investigations into the incident at Wingen Heights Secondary in Durban’s Shallcross suburb were under way.
The Chatsworth Tabloid newspaper reported that the video clip of the substitute female teacher kissing the 17-year-old male pupil was doing the rounds among Grade 11 and Grade 12 pupils and had become a ”hot talking point”.
It is believed the video footage was taken by a pupil who filmed them through a small window in the door using his cellphone last week.
The paper quoted a parent, Rita Pillay, as saying: ”The video shows the teacher and pupil kissing and fondling each other.
The boy, who is well known, was clad in his uniform and the teacher is easily identifiable, said Pillay.
”They are kissing each other and moving their heads from side to side.”
Thusi confirmed that the teacher had since resigned.
Thusi said the departmental officials would be meeting the pupil and his parents. – Sapa
