Tourist falls off Tsitsikamma suspension bridge

A tourist was injured when she fell off a suspension bridge at the Tsitsikamma National Park near Plettenberg Bay, South African National Parks said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Wanda Mkutshulwa said Sandra Malan suffered a broken leg, a sprained ankle and cuts and bruises on her jaw and legs.

Malan had been sitting on a concrete base of the suspension bridge on Wednesday afternoon when she fell.

”She stood up to watch her husband take pictures of their children, lost her footing and fell approximately 6m to 7m down the rock face,” said Mkutshulwa.

Her husband called the park reception for help, and a field ranger who was on patrol in the vicinity responded within minutes.

Paramedics and a doctor from Plettenberg Bay were called and the woman was later airlifted by military helicopter to Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth. — Sapa
