THE Storyland Carnival — part of the Arts Alive festivities — offers a golden opportunity to keep the children busy and entertained for a day. A host of thrilling events will take place, from an appearance by the popular Capetonian rap group Prophets of da City to participation in a crafts workshop — plus a jazz workshop, a book fair, dance and much more.
Taking place this Sunday (September 25) at the Market Theatre Precinct, the carnival starts at 10am and runs until 4.30pm. Among the events is a children’s book fair, with a plethora of books — some created by the youngsters themselves –on display.
In the Laager Theatre at 10.30am and again at 2pm, the charming adventure film The Worst Witch will be shown. Pedro the Music Man will demonstrate and share his love of Africa’s musical cultures, and the Zanendaba Storytellers will tell traditional tales.
At noon in the Mega Music Warehouse, a play devised by the children of Sacred Heart College — and featuring a cast of 300 of them — will be on. Animals in Myth explores Southern African mythology to express spiritual values.
Jazz musician and teacher Johnny Mekoa will hold a workshop at 2pm in the Newtown Galleries, aimed at awakening an appreciation of music in young hearts, while the Dance Factory will showcase the talents of young dancers.
