South African Airways said after inquiries this=20 week by the Mail & Guardian that it would withdraw=20 ”soft porn” movies — one a Playboy Entertainment=20 production appropriately titled ”Cover Me” — shown=20 on the airline’s first and business classes.=20

SAA head of corporate relations Felicia Mabuza=20 Suttle said it was not the first she had heard of=20 adult movies being shown on flights, but said SAA=20 executive manager Mike Myburgh had told her the=20 movies were ”not exactly” soft porn, but rather art=20

Myburgh, however, had agreed that the movies –=20 available to passengers on private monitors — be=20

Earlier, Hennie Knoetsen, who handles SAA in-flight=20 entertainment, denied they were showing soft porn.=20 ”We have some well-known films; and some are of the=20 art type” he said. He suggested that these might=20 have been confused for soft porn.=20

He pointed out the nature of the movies and age=20 restrictions were clearly marked in the=20 entertainment guide, and that it was standard to=20 show similar movies on a number of different=20

The M&G approached SAA after a passenger who saw=20 ”Cover Me” on a flight last month described it as a=20 ”low budget” rather than tasteful art film. =20

When M&G pointed out to Mabuza – Suttle that ”Cover=20 Me” was a Playboy production she aknowledged it and=20 said: ”Ironically, I’m doing a show on pornography=20 (on her television show) this week.” =20
