QKumba Zoo hit the spot

Glynis O’Hara

QKUMBA ZOO’s song The Child Inside reached number one on America’s Billboard Club Charts this week. The chart reflects what is being played at most clubs throughout the United States.

It looks like they could be South Africa’s most commercially successful musical export since Manfred Mann invaded the British charts in the Sixties. The band are currently in New York for promotional appearances and performances.

“It’s fabulous,” an excited Levannah said by telephone from her New York hotel room this week. “We’re here till mid-December and we’ll probably do 10 to 15 club, radio and party performances. But, I’ve no idea what the size of any of the venues is at this stage.”

Levannah said Junior Vasquez, a top American DJ and re-mixer who had a hit with If Madonna Calls, works at the club where they will debut.
