Thomas Khoza (above), former R15-a-month farmboy from Warmbaths, is a musician who busks on the streets of Johannesburg’s Yeoville.
He was a pikinin carrying a white man’s lunch bag underground at Cooke 3 Secti on of the Randfontein gold mines when he was shot and severely wounded in a mi ner’s strike on Christmas Eve 1985.
Discharged from a hospital nine months later, he reported for work – and was s acked for absenteeism.
Now 31, Khoza has been wandering the country ever since. His aim is to be a fu ll-time journalist.
Khoza is a regular contributor to Homeless Talk, the monthly magazine for the homeless, and is a member of its writers’ workshop.
