Hellenic rout Stars

THURSDAY, 12.00NOON:

HELLENIC beat QwaQwa Stars 3-1 last night in a Premier League clash, after leading 1-0 at half time. The score was not a true reflection however, as the hardworking Stars blew several scoring chances that might have changed the outcome.

Stars’ defence was always impeccable and goalie Jacob Maikwoso pulled off an excellent third-minute save with a left-hand dive to block a lightning shot by Grant Young.

First lost goal came off the boot of Lucas Skhosana in the 11th minute, when his shot from the left sailed past the upright. Six minutes later Stars tried again but Hellenic goalie John Diphebe blocked Mathews Mokotjo’s shot. Stars should have scored once again in the 21st minute with a poor save of a Mokotsho shot from Diphebe. But Mokotjo’s second try on the rebound was brilliantly stopped by the goalie.

The first goal came to Hellenic in the 34th minute when Maikwoso couldn’t hold a cross by Craig Bianchi. Just before half-time, Stars tried again, but Diphebe once again made a brilliant save of a shot from Robson Muchichwa.

Five minutes into the second halfYoung dribbled past a pack of defenders to send a quick cross to Armando Satchipia, who made no mistake with the goal shot. Goal number three came in the 57th minute when Chrissandro de Weber touched the ball for the first time.

Star finally got one through with a Muchichwa shot in the 75th minute, but it was too little, too late.
