THE SA squad for the May 24 friendly against England at Old Trafford was named yesterday, and Leeds United central defender Lucas Radebe is in the captain’s shoes. Radebe, who led Bafana Bafana in the World Cup qualifier against Zaire last month, is likely to lead the team in the World Cup finals in France next year.
SA coach Clive Barker said yesterday, “Lucas has shown he has the qualitites to be captain of the SA team to France. He will be captain for many years.” Former captain Neil Tovey was left out of the side against Zaire, and may be sidelined for the match against England.
The squad is : Goalkeepers: Andre Arendse, Mark Anderson, Brian Baloyi.
Defenders: Sizwe Motaung, Neil Tovey, Lucas Radebe, Mark Fish, Gavin Lane, David Nyathi.
